Even MORE Viper goodness...
Posted by Lorenzo at 1:13 pm

Ho-key-dokey, so, it's just over a month until the April release of Viper's Sasquatch anthology, in which we are debuting the very first internationally available MOON! adventure. I'll be posting all sorts of goodies from this in the coming weeks leading up to the launch, but for today I just wanted to show you guys a little more of the concept work which went into our story. Hope you enjoy these little slices of environment, machine, kit and character design, and check out the official site HERE for tasters of all the other contributor's work, and news on the release date.

Cheers!

Exeter gone, London Thing up next!
Posted by Lorenzo at 1:05 pm

Well now, I had an AWESOME time at the Exeter Expo the other week. Thanks to all youse kool kats who came down and spent a chilled Sunday chatting comics, pencils, and MOON! The Blink will certainly be there again next year, so I hope to see all you Exeter kids again then! Cheers!

The coming of the Exeter show commences the early show season here in the UK, with three more cons on the way over the next few months. The first of these is the UK Web and Mini Comix Thing on Saturday 17th March. The Blink are strong supporters of this one-dayer for all things Web and Indie, and we were lucky enough to be asked to produce the official Poster/anthology cover for this year's show. As with last year we have also produced 4-pages of exclusive MOON! Gung-Ho goodness for the anthology itself, where we will be joined by pages from many of the great exhibitors from the show. Below is the official poster, along with some snap-shots of last year's "rarer than rocking horse poo" anthology, to give you an idea of the kinda' thing you can expect to see. More on this show soon, as we have a rather exciting special release there for fans of One Night in the City amongst other things...

Coming soon, more teasers from the Viper book, so check back in, folks!!

Valentines Smooches
Posted by Lorenzo at 6:19 am

Turn away Luuuuuurve haters....

I remember seeing an episode of some fairly mainstream U.S. television show (back in the days when I still watched TV!) where a girl (who could have been Ally Mcbeal) goes to meet an old artist whose work she had studied and loved at university. He had once been an important figure in some art scene or other during the 60's, but upon going to his studio she found that now he did nothing but paint portraits of his wife, who had passed away a few years before. At the time I saw that show, I had not yet got together with my girl, and I don't think I really thought that deeply about it. For some reason though, it stuck in my memory, and when I was sketching up this Valentine's pic it came back to me, and I was moved by the thought of an aging artist in a dusty old loft devoting the last years of his art to try and capture the memory of his life's one great love. I'd like to think that Esty is already in everything I do; every female character I draw seems to just naturally have the feel of her personality, looks and style, but the influence of my girl goes much deeper than that. Within my work, she is the sense of fun, the optimism, the energy, and the love of funny little creatures hiding in the corners of panels. She is my absolute inspiration, and maybe one day I'll have what it takes to do a "serious" portrait which captures everything she is to me. Until then though, It's our 7th Valentine's together, and I just want to say that I love ya' baby, and I hope this silly scribble goes a little way to telling you how beeeeeutiful you are to me.

MOON! 7th Sketchbook Launched!
Posted by Lorenzo at 6:18 am

Well, here we are folks, only a few days until I drag the ole' Blink wagon to the EXETER COMIC EXPO, a little one-day show as part of the Animated Exeter Animation festival. As usual, we're producing a new MOON! mini sketchbook just for the show, with a limited edition run of just 25, only available on the day, and FREE with every £10 spent at the Blink stand. We'll also have all the Malcolm Magic back issues and trades and stuff, as well as portfolios of my original boards, including your first chance to have an exclusive sneak peek at pages form our story for the forth-coming Viper anthology.

This cover shows a design I did for Serenity, one of the leading ladies in the book. The beauty of having "making movies" as a backdrop for the adventure, is that many of thecharacterss got through numerous costume changes each issue, which keeps my head bubbling with invention.

The 'Phant in her bag is partly based on a little stuffed fellow called Elly, and partly homage to Stripy from the Dan Dare Man From Nowhere trilogy of stories. Expect more nods to Dare as the series continues, because, well, it's the greatest comic of all time. Fact.

See you at the show, guys!

So, outside of being a scribbling loon, I'm a Gearhead, a Grease Monkey, a Wheel Man, call me what you want, I just LOVE the old cars. Specifically, I love the old cars with V8 Flathead engines, multiple Stromburg 97's no fenders and chopped tops. Alot of the MOON! vehicles will be heavily influenced by this passion for traditional rods and Kustoms, but it doesn't stop there. The very design of the MOON! studio itself will have the feel of those early petrol heads; partly decrepid, partly hopped-up, mostly done on a shoe-string with a wing and a prayer. Alot of the design of the additonal (non-story) pages will also be influenced by this type of machinery, and just as I was starting to plan out these at Christmas my uber-cool dad, (Mr Etherington to you), who's been talking of building a steam-powered car for ages, said he'd found a video on the web he thought I'd like. Lo and behold, there on the screen was a 30 second movie of some nutsy old guy gallently trying to remain in control of a STEAM-POWERED motorbike as it skittled through mud and spectators. Just Awesome. With this new-found love of all things steamy, I went away and tried to design a load of little valves and pipes and whatnot for MOON!, here's the first of those pages, more soon...

*raises a glass of Banana Milkshake*

Ho-kay, so, following on from last week's MOON! special release announcement, I got another for you today! Lordy! It is proving to be a busy year, huh? So, without further ado, I'd like to tell you about a VERY cool underground comic that's coming your way. The Brainchild of good Blink Buddy Jamie Smart (yes, the guy behind the AWESOME BEAR series from Slave Labour), this is gonna be one fun little rag! Entitled FAT CHUNK and distributed through BOHDATE (yes, they'll take international orders! Yeah!) this Black and White bad-boy is gonna be a REAL underground comic in every sense, and the Blink are getting involved too, with an exclusive 3-page MOON! mini adventure! More news on the release soon, but needless to say there's a whole slew of great guys involved in this one, so get on over to the myspace page HERE for all the latest.

Here's a little promo pic I knocked up for youse guys...

Happy Birthday Mr. Scribbles!!
Posted by Bob at 12:18 pm
On Saturday, our premier drawer reaches the ripe old age of 27. Mark and I felt it important to say a few words at this important juncture.

Lawrence, Lorenzo, Lol, Thumbs. He is known by many names (some can't be written for fear of offending children, pets and certain spiritual institutions) but they all mean the same thing: unrelentingly positive dedication.

I had to scoop a classic pic out the archive to show you exactly what we're talking about. It's easy to become complacent in the presence of unbridled talent but all talent has to be nurtured. In the case of my incredibly talented brother that nurturing process began at the tender age of 7 when he first picked up a pencil and decided to draw. And that was it. He drew, he sculpted (his own characters - as pictured.Jack Webb, I believe?), he designed, he built and he engineered every hour of the day!

When he finally returned to the pencil in 2003 (with the founding of Blink Twice) he had come full circle. He was back at the drawing board capturing comic book action in spectacular form.

His imagination, dedication, energy and passion for art, the graphic art form and our own projects continue to surprise and inspire me daily.

He's made working DANG HARD for four years look like a giggle and now, with our first international release wrapped and submitted hopefully he'll finally start to attract the level of recognition he deserves.

So brother, please keep forcing Mark and I to step up our game with your simply breath-taking artwork and constant good-natured enthusiasm!

We love ya buddy. Happy bloomin' birthday! Have a glass of something fizzy on us.
