The Etherington Brothers on ComicSpace - come see us!
Posted by Lorenzo at 9:01 am

So, I've had quite a few mails recently asking why I haven't mentioned either in the blog or on the forums that we have quite a comprehensive page over on ComicSpace. My original idea was to upload the entire backlog of images from the web onto ComicSpace, and then announce it, but I just never got round to posting everything up, or letting anyone know I was there! A few hundred folks have hunted us out and befriended us on there already, but I thought I had better come in and do an official announcement.

The main benefit to the ComicSpace page is that it's all divided up into galleries, unlike my sprawling DeviantArt gallery (which I'm sure I'll never get round to organising properly!) and it's also bang up to date (unlike the gallery sections on SBT). For instance, you can check out an entire section just on my pinups and girlie pics HERE, or go check out some of the old tutorials I used to do HERE. There's lots more besides, so if you want a good, quick reference site with hundreds of our piccies in a nice, tidy order, our ComicSpace homepage is HERE.

Cheers!

DFC Launch cover - The Furry CLAW!!
Posted by Lorenzo at 9:09 am

Hey, peeps!

Another break-down here of one of the elements form the DFC launch cover, hope you likey!

Note in particular how the final design differs largely for the original concept sketch, due to their already being a couple of three-fingered hands on the cover by the time I got to the final render of this 'un! Thrilling!

Two days now until the new DFC arrives! Ha-ZAA!

Friday is DFC day! Issue 3!
Posted by Lorenzo at 4:27 pm

So, there's a little contradiction between the title and the image today! Of course, DFC-readers will know that issue 3 arrived today, and what a beauty it is!! however, in an attempt to have some semblance of a sequential tick-list for those collecting in the future, I'm going to attempt to chronicle the appearances of Sid and Rivet in an on-going adventure checklist. Each update will include the adventure title and a pic of some of the pages, along with the cover of that issue.

So here we go, the comic may be on issue 3, but let's start with issue 1 (this is the episode that was partly read out on BBC Radio 4 a month or so ago, for those that heard it)...!

If you haven't discovered the awesome DFC yet, it's right HERE. If you want to see some exclusive teasers, and read about what's happening in this week's adventure of Monkey Nuts, GO HERE.

LETTUCE!
Posted by Lorenzo at 10:46 am

Top artist and general great gal Sarah McIntyre posted this very funny picture on her blog recently, and I wanted to share it with you because it's frankly hilarious!
Sarah writes and draws the exceptionally good Vern and Lettuce strip in the DFC, and though I'm not supposed to have favorites in the comic, it's one of my favorites!

GO HERE to see the post in it's original form, and then you just have to GO HERE to see all the amazing little one-off piccies she posts in her blog, almost daily it seems! Puts my irregular posting to shame!

Thank you Lettuce!

Jamie Smart - Mr SuperCoolio!
Posted by Lorenzo at 5:01 pm

There isn't much in life that's more humbling than getting to know an artist whose work continuously makes you go "man, this guy ROCKS IT."

This is no truer than in the case of our friendship with the quite simply breathtaking Jamie Smart. Creator of basically Every Cool Comic You Ever Need to Read, and mastermind of Anything You'll Want to Buy in the Future, Jamie is a one-man awesome machine.

We both love and fear his greatness.

So when he took the time to pen his thoughts on our recent gogglebox appearances, we couldn't resist the chance to show you guys what he sent us.

GO HERE and spend the rest of your life wondering what you did before you found Jamie, just like we do.

Oh, and he's in THE DFC too! Yet another reason to subscribe! Issue 2 out tomorrow!

DFC Launch cover - The Tentacle!
Posted by Lorenzo at 6:36 pm

As promised on Friday, here's the first of a few breakdowns of some of the hands, paws and claws the can be seen tearing at the paper on the cover of the DFC launch issue. The original concept as pitched to me was to have a child's hands ripping the paper open, but I suggested to team DFC that maybe it would be a bit more exciting to have the hands of various monsters, robots and creatures in there as well.

Here's the rough, colour rough, lineart and final painting for the tentacle.

DFC Launch Party piccies!
Posted by Lorenzo at 11:52 am

Two weeks ago we attended the quite simply wonderful DFC launch party at the British Film Institute on London's South Bank. Alongside all the press and creators were 20 lucky young readers who had won the Guardian Newspaper's competition to come along in the afternoon, meet the great Phillip Pullman, and do a comics and animation workshop with four of the DFC's comic creators, two of which being we Etherington Bros. The workshop was great fun to be involved in, with all the children being real fans of the DFC strips which have already run in the Guardian.
There was also a group of young actors there from an Oxford drama school, who had come as characters from the DFC, including a brilliant Sid and Rivet from Monkey Nuts!! In the eve all the cretors and press turned up, and we had the most amazing night meeting and chatting to so many amazing people, all bought together by a real passion for this amazing title.

Here follows some photos of us monkeying around, and there's more on the Guardian's website HERE.

Check out in particular the suit I'm wearing that I had to go back in time to the seventies and wrestle off Starsky himself!

Nice!
